One major example from the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ of someone who concealed his Islam for political reasons was Ashama ibn Abjar, the Ethiopian king who accepted the early Muslims into his land. He is commonly known in Islamic history as the Negus or Al-Najashi and ruled the Kingdom of Aksum from approximately 614 to 630 CE.
