He rejects hadith but where did he get the Qur’an from?

Shaykh Shadee Elmasry addresses the “Quran only” argument, explaining why it is logically inconsistent to accept the Quran while rejecting Hadith.

He argues that the transmission of the Quran itself relies on the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Sahaba (companions), and the subsequent generations, meaning that rejecting the Prophet’s authority undermines the very source of the Quran.

The Quran contains verses instructing the Prophet  ﷺ not just to recite the book but to teach it and provide wisdom, which necessitates the Hadith as the practical application and explanation.

Shaykh Shadee also highlights that fundamental acts of worship, such as the specific mechanics of prayer / Salah, Hajj, Zakat, and the Friday Khutbah are not detailed in the Quran, yet those who reject Hadith still perform these rituals, effectively relying on the very traditions they claim to discard.

The preservation of the Quran across centuries and through various scripts, such as the Uthmanic tradition, is linked to the scholarly lineage of the Ummah, which also preserved the Hadith.

Ultimately the Quran and Hadith are inextricably linked in the Islamic tradition, and attacking the Hadith is a direct challenge to the authority and reliability of the Prophet Muhammad  ﷺ through whom the Quran was revealed.
