A high percentage of beef between Islamic scholars is due to one scholar receiving a distorted or incomplete version of what another scholar supposedly said. There’s usually a student telling the Shaykh, “He said such and such,” but the scholar himself doesn’t check or verify it; he simply trusts his student’s rendition of what was supposedly said.
