Riba, Mortgage, Gold & Bitcoin

Ashik recounts the moral conflict he faced when purchasing his first home with a conventional mortgage. After years of feeling that something was wrong, he eventually sold his property in 2009 to move into a rental, an act he describes as his own “mini hijra” to achieve peace of mind and escape interest-based debt.

Through his research, he became a proponent of gold and silver as historically sound, anti-riba forms of money, even participating in a silver dirham minting project.

Ashik explains how his computer science background and appreciation for sound money led him to view Bitcoin as “digital gold.” He emphasizes its decentralized, censorship-resistant nature as a stark contrast to fiat riba currency.

Driven by a desire to share his knowledge, he founded Blockchainology to teach others about Bitcoin. He also recently published the children’s book Bitcoin Is Halal to educate the younger generation on these concepts.
