Baal Worship Amongst The Israelites.

The story of Baal takes place among the Israelites, who were originally followers of Prophet Moses and were taught to worship Allah alone. Over time, after the deaths of righteous leaders, many Israelites began copying the religious practices of neighboring nations. Through political alliances and marriages, especially with foreign rulers, idol worship spread among them. One of the main false gods they adopted was Baal, whom they believed controlled rain, crops, and prosperity. As a result, many Israelites slowly abandoned true monotheism.

When Baal worship became common among the Israelites, Allah sent Prophet Elias (Elijah) to guide them back to the right path. He warned both the people and King Ahab that their disobedience would bring punishment. To show them the truth, Allah caused a long drought, and rain stopped for several years. This hardship was meant to make the Israelites realize that Baal had no power and that only Allah controls nature and life.

To clearly prove the falsehood of Baal, Elijah challenged the priests of Baal to a public test before the Israelites. Both sides prepared sacrifices and asked their gods to send fire from heaven. The priests of Baal prayed for a long time, but nothing happened. When Elijah prayed to Allah, fire immediately came down and burned his offering. This miracle showed the Israelites that Allah alone is the true God and that Baal was powerless.

Despite witnessing this clear sign, many leaders among the Israelites remained stubborn. Queen Jezebel became hostile to Elijah and tried to have him killed, forcing him to flee. Still, Elijah continued his mission whenever he could, reminding the Israelites of their covenant with Allah. The story shows how easily a community can drift away from true faith, and how prophets patiently struggle to bring their people back to righteousness, even when facing danger and rejection.
