Bitcoin’s legitimacy does not depend on government backing. While critics claim its lack of regulation undermines its status, Islamic law (Shariʿah) recognizes a currency’s validity based on societal acceptance, utility, and store of value, not state endorsement. Government support can help establish trust, but examples like Zimbabwe and Venezuela show that societal trust is more important.
