“Luke Dashjr, a prominent Bitcoin Core developer and devout Catholic, did not inscribe the entire Bible onto the Bitcoin blockchain. However, he did embed several Catholic prayers into the blockchain during the early 2010s. Operating the Eligius mining pool, Dashjr utilized the coinbase transaction field to include Latin prayers, such as excerpts from the Divine Praises, in the blocks his pool mined. These inscriptions included phrases like “Benedictus Deus. Benedictum Nomen Sanctum eius” (“Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name”) and other lines from the Divine Praises, a traditional Catholic prayer. These inscriptions were among the earliest instances of non-financial data being embedded into Bitcoin’s ledger. Dashjr’s actions sparked discussions within the Bitcoin community about the appropriateness of embedding religious content into the blockchain. Some viewed it as a personal expression, while others raised concerns about the implications of such practices . Interestingly, despite his earlier use of the blockchain for religious inscriptions, Dashjr has been a vocal critic of the recent trend of Ordinal inscriptions. He considers them an exploitation of a vulnerability and has advocated for measures to restrict such practices . In summary, while Luke Dashjr did embed specific Catholic prayers into the Bitcoin blockchain, he did not inscribe the entire Bible. His actions contributed to early discussions about the use of Bitcoin’s ledger for non-financial data.”
