The name of Arsenal Football Club comes from Arabic—dar al-sina’a, meaning a naval arsenal during the Abbasid era.
The word admiral comes from the Old French term amiral, which itself is derived from the Arabic word amir al- , meaning “commander of” or “prince of the,” with amir meaning “commander” or “leader.” The Arabic term amir was adopted into Spanish and Italian as almirante (a variant of amir al-), and it later made its way into French as amiral before becoming the English admiral.
