Question: Can we just follow our instincts. I often feel my heart guiding me, but is that okay, or just superstition?

The answer is both yes and no. No, when there’s a clear ruling or guidance on a matter. Don’t rely solely on your instincts—your heart can lead you astray. Feeling comfortable doesn’t always mean it’s right.

First, always ask: What does Sharia say? Second, never rely on instincts for major decisions—whether it’s choosing a spouse, a job, or a house. Consult experts. If you’re marrying, ask others about the person, check their financial stability (if you’re a woman), and don’t just go with your gut.

Instincts are fine when the stakes are low, like choosing between two halal options with minimal risk. For example, a vacation to Florida is fine if there’s no major investment of your time or money.

But imagine your stockbroker saying, “I’m investing based on gut feeling.” You wouldn’t trust that! You’d want someone who does their homework, not just follows instincts.

And regarding “leaps of faith”—in Islam, faith is based on knowledge and investigation, not blind belief.
