Three weeks ago:

“Who can ban Bitcoin? Nobody, and who can prohibit the use of other electronic means of payment? Nobody. These are new technologies, no matter what happens to the dollar these tools will develop one way or another because everyone will strive to reduce costs and increase reliability.”

Yesterday:

Russia bans Bitcoin mining in 10 regions for six years.

Based on the 2021 Russian Census, the combined population of the 10 regions where cryptocurrency mining will be banned is approximately 10.5 million.

Given Russia’s total population of about 147.2 million as of 2021, these regions account for approximately 7.1% of the national population.

Therefore, around 92.9% of Russia’s population resides in regions unaffected by the upcoming cryptocurrency mining ban.

The specific regions where the ban will be implemented are:

• Dagestan

• Ingushetia

• Kabardino-Balkaria

• Karachay-Cherkessia

• North Ossetia

• Chechnya

• Donetsk People’s Republic

• Lugansk People’s Republic

• Zaporizhia

• Kherson
