Question: My sister doesn’t wear a hijab, but she is very good. Is it far-fetched to say that?

Shaykh Shadee Elmasry:

“Someone can be excellent in many aspects but weak in one. No, it’s not far off. Allah will reward her for the good that she does, but she will have to explain why she didn’t obey Allah in another command. You can be very pious in an area that comes easily to you, but in another, you might struggle because it’s difficult, and you haven’t found the strength to overcome it. Isn’t that true for all of us? The difference is that with a woman who doesn’t wear a hijab, it’s more obvious because it’s something outward.

If you ask any man, he might find many things easy but struggle with a few private matters that we can’t see. This isn’t a permissive attitude; it’s simply a description of reality. So, are you saying they’re sinful? Yes, they are sinful. But we all commit sins and should make Tawbah (repentance). This message is for all of us, not just one of us. The reason it stands out is because it’s an external deed.”
