Defending The Prophet Muhammad PBUH from the accusation of pedophilia.

A recurring allegation among critics of Islam is that The Prophet Muhammad PBUH was guilty of pedophilia due to his marriage to Aisha RA

Here are some points highlighting why this is a weak insinuation /accusation that does not stand up to scrutiny:

Prophet Muhammad’s Marriage To Lady Aisha.

Discussion Points from the Conversation between Mohammed Hijab & Sneako on The Prophet Muhammad’s (peace and blessings be upon him) Marriage to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):

– Some modern revisionist accounts attempt to argue that Aisha was 18 or 21 when she married the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

– The majority view remains consistent with the traditional narrative: Aisha was betrothed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) at the age of 6, and the marriage was consummated when she was 9 years old.

– Social constructs, including the concept of childhood, cannot be empirically justified.

– Historically, childhood has been understood in terms of biological ability, psychological capability, or a combination of both.

– Why has the West redefined what it means to be a child?

– In the UK during the 1800s, people often married at the age of 10 or 12 years old. In the USA, in states like Delaware, it could be as young as 7.

– When did this shift in the perception of childhood occur?

– This shift happened after World War I when ideas about education began to change.

– In the UK, a law was passed that raised the minimum marriage age from 12 to 16, introducing the idea that adulthood began after completing education.

– This concept of adulthood starting post-education was historically alien; no previous civilization understood adulthood in this way.

– It is illogical to impose these modern social constructs, which are not based on biological facts, on historical practices.

– These relativistic understandings often come from individuals with liberal presuppositions and worldviews.

– The general principle in Islam is that one can marry whom they wish, provided it does not cause physical or psychological harm to the other person.

– Today’s age of consent laws are highly relative; in one part of the world, the age of consent might be 14, in another, 16, and in a third, 18. Which one is morally correct?

– According to liberal laws, one man’s pedophile could be another man’s good citizen. Who sets the age? It’s very arbitrary.

– When Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) married the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), she had already reached puberty and was therefore not prepubescent.

– Pedophilia is defined as being attracted to pre-pubescent children.

– In pre-modern and ancient times, people engaged in many practices that are no longer common. For example, in ancient Athens and Sparta, boys were soldiers at 5 or 6 years old.

– Today, we live in an age of distraction, entertainment, and technology that makes life very comfortable.

– If there were no such distractions, and if constant war was the norm, as in ancient times, the conversation would be entirely different.

– Clearly, there is historical context and significance to consider.

– Muslims are not suggesting that because the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) married Aisha in the 7th century, this practice should be replicated in the 21st century, given our modern context.

– If you study the life of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), it is clear that she was a woman and a scholar, not a child.
